Established in 1985, the store has an interesting history involving local artists. The building was formerly known as The Smoky Mountain Music Barn, the home of Dolly Parton's kinfolk who entertained the locals and tourists for several years (See postcard picture below). The building was built in the late 70's by Bill Owens and his wife Kathy. The Jordan family purchased the building and converted the Music Barn into the Country Barn Gift Shop in 1985. The Music Barn was a Country/Bluegrass type of musical show. However, on Sundays, Dolly's grandpa would hold church services. When the Jordan family purchased the building, the matriarch Imogene Jordan said, "We could not sing but we could sell!"
