Claudette Johnson

I was born in Virginia where, for as long as I can remember, I have felt a natural connection to the wilderness and her beauty. I started pursuing a career in wildlife conservation, and have had the privilege of experiencing many roles within the field.

I moved to Western North Carolina where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology at Lee’s McRae College. My extraordinary experiences have given me the unique opportunity to study and observe wildlife behavior which fueled my creativity.

I don’t know when I first started creating, but I know that won my first art contest at the age of 9. Soon after that, I sold my first piece. Art has always a tool I could use to express myself. With my growing passion for wildlife, I wanted to use my talent to make a difference and support my continuing education.

I currently live just outside of Asheville, NC where I work as an animal care naturalist for the WNC Nature Center. When I’m not working, I love hiking with my dog, cuddling with my cat, or finding a DIY project. Also if you want me to talk for hours, I got you. Bring up animal behavior or bats!
